Your Vocabulary Progress

Vocabulary Targets by Level (CEFR)

These estimates represent productive vocabulary (words you can actively use). Receptive vocabulary (words you can understand) is typically 2-3 times larger.

  • A1: 500 words - Basic everyday expressions
  • A2: 1,000 words - Familiar topics and routines
  • B1: 2,500 words - Most everyday situations
  • B2: 4,000 words - Complex texts and technical discussions
  • C1: 8,000 words - Wide range of demanding texts
  • C2: 16,000 words - Near-complete command

Maximizing Vocabulary Retention

Use spaced repetition systems (like Anki) to optimize retention. Learn words in context through reading and listening. Review regularly—forgetting is normal and spacing reviews strengthens memory.
