What to learn first in any language
Sometimes when you begin with a language, it’s hard to decide what to learn first.
-Should you start by learning as many vocabulary words as you can?
-Or maybe you should learn how to use the verbs first?
Of course, you need to know some vocabulary and some grammar in order to be able to construct or understand a word.
First you should learn some basic phrases. There are many benefits to learning just a few basic phrases such as Hello, how are you, what is your name, my name is, etc.
- It gives you immediate satisfaction
When you can say even just a few simple phrases in a new language, you will feel like you can go further. You can impress your friends and family, too. Even if you can only say “Hi, my name is _____. How are You?”, they won’t know the difference.
- It introduces you to the language
Once you know some of the language, when you start with the grammar and moving on, everything won’t seem quite so foreign. You will already have been introduced to the verb to be.
So one of the first things you should buy when beginning a language is a phrasebook. Learn some basic phrases and even go further than that. If you learn all the phrases perfectly in a nice sized phrasebook, there is no doubt you will be able to communicate. As you go, you will begin to understand how these phrases are crafted and will be able to speak even more fluently.
It might seem like cheating, but it’s the perfect first time inspiration for your new language!
