Learn a language through reading
To be truly fluent in a language, you need to be able to speak, read, and write in the language. When immersing yourself in a language, you should cover all of these.
Reading is not only an important skill to develop in a language, but can help you learn the language overall.
When you begin with a new language, gather several types of reading material in that language. Look for children’s books, get magazines and newspapers, and find primers. You don’t have to spend a lot because you can find a lot of articles and other materials for free on the internet.
At first, it might seem like a lot and overwhelming, but you will get faster and faster and move through it much more quickly.
In the beginning, translate everything and write it all down word for word. When you only have to translate a word here and there and start to read more quickly, you won’t have to write it all down because it will take up too much time. Instead, you could use this time to read more.
Reading in your target language will push you to fluency. You will learn new words, reinforce grammar points, increase speed and fluidity, and improve your overall skills in the language.
There are many aspects to truly knowing and understanding a language. Reading is a very important one not to overlook.
