How to learn any language: A Step-by-step Guide

Among my first impressions of learning a foreign language was the idea that all you had to do was learn each equivalent word in that language and you were set.  For example, in the previous sentence, I would learn the equivalent Russian words for among, my, first, etc. and then put them together in exactly the same way.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.  There is much more to it.  The structure of every language is different.  Grammar causes this road block in our language learning efforts, which makes learning one language just as hard as the next.

Lucky for us, the basic method in which we go about learning any language is the same.  Here is my formula for learning a language.  I have divided it into 5 main steps and several smaller bits.  You can do one step each day for a long period of time and then the next step the following day continuing through the steps.  Or, you can do all of the steps everyday and just spend less time on each step.

Use the smaller steps whenever you have small bits of free time throughout your day.  Tailor the program to your specific needs.

Step 1: Vocabulary

Step 2: Grammar

Step 3: Read and translate

Step 4: Writing

Step 5: Listen

Wrap it up and put it all together, and you will be starting to speak your language in no time!
